Beautiful letter on the edition of Paradis Artificiels and its copies on large paper. Baudelaire also mentions the poems – which remained in Honfleur – to be included in the second edition of Les Fleurs du mal .

“Dear friend, You can sleep; the discount was steep: 22, not counting the shopping. Because the ticket had been refused twice because of the eleven , and then I went like an imbecile, breaking my nose, on the day of the ascension . For me to buy copies on the wire, there have to be some. Where are they ? And I was waiting for this, at least for Grandguillot ( a serious thing ). I'll go look for Les Fleurs after the Duranty affair , which now lives on rue de Boulogne. From now on, my dear friend, you will have to do like all publishers : 1000 means 1100, 1500 means 1650 – we must not lose money through forced gifts. And this surplus authorized by all uses must be entirely devoted to unavoidable obligations. However, when the circulation is 6000 (6600), I do not claim to give 600 copies . In my opinion, you should have foreseen the situation, and by doing like everyone else, you would have avoided imposing an embarrassing economy on me. I thank you with all my heart for China ; but does that imply that I didn't have holland ? I will try to keep it. I resign myself to the misfortune of Saint-Victor, Gaiffe and Ducamp.
