“Dear Sir, Thank you for your letter of June 20, which I just received today. Your friend actually came to bring me the painting, too destroyed for me to repair it. I think I will do a variation of this painting again, because it would be a shame if the idea remained so insensitive, with this damaged paint making life difficult for him. To replace this painting, I gave your friend a gouache which I hope you will like. I read your letter of March 27 with great interest, it did not bore me as you feared. However, this fear is necessary, in my opinion: if it were otherwise we would have an assurance - rather stupid - with regard to what we have tried to think and about which it is not possible to say anything. something definitive. The country where you live is very beautiful, I have no doubt. I thank you for your kind invitation which “I would honor” if it were possible. The day I can take a really big trip, it will be for Argentina that I will take a transport voucher. In the meantime, I hardly see any expeditions other than going to Boisfort, to Knokke itself! even from time to time in Paris. »
