"It's sad to play at a little death, and the big one arrives unseen."
A wonderful document from the poet thanking his friend for his faithful support. On the front of the card, where he is depicted in bust form, Cocteau redrew his profile in black ink and added a "thank you from the bottom of my heart" and a star on his forehead.

Dear Lagarde, You know what a backwater I live in, and I wasn't even aware of Mortier's text (and I still am, and don't think I'm missing much). Is it a book or an article? But I'm told that you're making up for my silence and laziness with a faithful heart, for which I thank you most sincerely. Jean.
Call in the evening around 10 p.m. op.10.64 and let's meet. It's sad to play at little death when the big one arrives unseen.
