“Dear Jean Suquet, it was in no way my fault that you moved away, and you know that I always enjoy seeing you. Jean Schuster and I have sometimes lamented that our friendship with you didn't keep you closer. That said, I still see you as clearly as when we met almost every day, and that's rare enough for you to be sure of reaching me today or tomorrow without the slightest delay. Would you be so kind as to telephone me (Trinity 28-33) so that we can arrange a time to meet here, because I'm currently dreading these foggy conditions and you're so close. Yours very affectionately, André Breton.”

Writer, poet, photographer, and member of the Surrealist group, Jean Suquet (1928–2007) devoted a large part of his work to the study of Marcel Duchamp's oeuvre, at the invitation of André Breton in 1949, and with the congratulations of Duchamp himself. He published numerous works on the subject between 1974 and 2004.
In his first letter to Duchamp, in July 1949, Suquet wrote: " If I am to write about you and your work, it will not be as a critic but as a poet." Duchamp replied from New York on August 9: " I completely agree with your project. And as you say, 'as a poet' is the only way to say anything. "
The International Surrealist Exhibition, EROS, organised by André Breton and Marcel Duchamp, was held at the Galerie Daniel Cordier during the winter of 1959-60.
