" We are in the tall trees and amidst the gentle green hills. Your patient's eyes are well. You deserve to be a Zouave because you are a healer. Around the 12th, in eleven or twelve days, we will return to Brussels and we hope to see you there.

Dear Doctor Emile, come and occupy your little room overlooking the garden at Place des Barricades [Hugolian address in Brussels] . I will be very happy to shake your hand. It will be my viaticum for the rough ocean crossing to Guernsey, which will soon have to be repeated. Come, come, come, from the 12th, we will be waiting for you in Brussels. I am yours with all my heart. VH

Thank you for Hernani . I recognized your handwriting on the envelope of a Liberté of August 30, speaking of Ruy Blas , and in this regard I owe you a lot of expenses for newspaper purchases and postal items. You must allow me to reimburse you for the past and a little for the future, and I ask you to take the two lines below to our dear Paul Meurice. V.

Dear Meurice, please be so kind as to give, in nomine mio, one hundred francs , to our excellent friend Dr. Emile Allix. Victor Hugo. Chaudfontaine. September 1 , 1867.
