The play Pasteur was written for his father Lucien and created by the latter on January 23, 1919 at the Vaudeville theater.

In 1935, Guitry adapted his play for the cinema in homage to his father (who died ten years earlier) and out of a cult of national greatness, here embodied by the illustrious scientist.
