Louis-Ferdinand CELINE (1894-1961).

Autograph letter signed “ Destouches ” to his friend Jacques Deval.

A page in-8° on letterhead from Pigall's Tabac, bd de Clichy. Paris (1933).

Rare letter from Céline from this period.

“My old man, I'm very happy to hear that Tovaritch is a triumph, but then I would like to go. Can I have two places and two more places for the Athénée – Everything is possible. I suppose you are covered in commitments and repetitions. In eight days we will have lunch together if you have time. Very affectionately. Buttons. 98 rue Lepic”.

Tovaritch is a play in four acts written and directed by Jacques Deval (1890-1972) in 1933. This play was the subject of a film adaptation in 1935 by the same Deval. Céline also appears there as an extra. This is Céline's only filmed appearance before World War II.

In 1933, Céline became an essential writer and achieved significant critical success following the publication of her Voyage au bout de la nuit.
