"To our dearest Tivosette (née Cerfvolant). These memories from her friends. Nadar. Marseille. June 1904."

Probably inspired by Pantheon charivarique , Nadar planned from 1851 to bring together more than a thousand celebrities of the time on lithographic plates.

The period of creation of the Pantheon was frenetic: Nadar formed a small group of draftsmen, including his younger brother, to produce the hundreds of portraits needed for these large frescoes.

The famous Nadar Pantheon was published in March 1854 and featured two hundred and fifty well-known figures including Hugo, Nerval, Baudelaire, Balzac, Lamartine, Chateaubriand, Musset, Dumas…

Nadar, who depicts himself (no. 182) seated next to a sign, dedicates his pantheon thus: " To the gentleman whom I certainly regret in advance not knowing and who, on the 2nd day of the 3rd moon of the year 3607, will run through the sales like a lost dog to buy at a premium this copy which has become impossible to find and which he will be unable to do without for his great work on the historical figures of the 19th century.
