Dear Joseph, thank you for the book, which delighted me; that's the real Delteil—it's astonishing how true and youthful it is, it smells of the earth—that 's how I see you. It reminded me of the good old days with Robert , how everything has changed around us. Luckily I have my painting—it's my poetry, my language, that saves me from the poverty of spirit that surrounds me. I've decided to come and see you at the Tuileries when the weather is warmer. My old companion, the cat, has died, and I can leave the house. Happy New Year 1965. Give Caroline [Caroline Dudley, Delteil's wife] for me. I called Catherine, but she was asleep […] I know your book is a success at La Hune. I send you both my love. Sonia.

Joseph Delteil had just published * La Cuisine Paléolithique* with Robert Morel publishers. The book was awarded the Grand Prix international de littérature gastronomique in 1965.
