In 1963, Serge Gainsbourg wanted to revolutionize and aestheticize jazz; to produce "a little gem": "I wanted to write good jazz songs, while retaining two of the themes I love: love, women (...) Romantic obsessions are the driving force behind my desire to write."

One month before recording his new album Gainsbourg Confidentiel , with guitarist Elek Bacsik and bassist Michel Gaudry (the musicians who would accompany him for this album), Serge Gainsbourg performed at the Théâtre des Capucines in Paris, as part of the "Tuesdays of Song" series, every Tuesday in October 1963. Bobby Lapointe opened for him.

A live album, simply titled Théâtre Des Capucines , was released in 2009.
