"And yeah, it's me, Gainsbarre."
In preparation for his anthology published by Denoël, Mon propre rôle , Serge Gainsbourg corrected and validated with his initials the text of his reggae song Ecce homo published in 1981 on the album Mauvaises nouvelles des étoiles.
This song marks the birth of the Gainsbarre character, the poet's scandalous alter ego.

And yeah, that's me, Gainsbarre
I am found by chance
Nightclubs and bars
Americans are great
Gainsbarre is recognizable
From her jeans to her bar-
Be, after three nights, his cigars
And his bouts of depression
Gainsbarre is strange
He's cool, I guess
He stops everything
I don't care, well, we'll see
And yeah, Gainsbarre was nailed
At Mount Golgotha
He's hilarious at reggae
The heart pierced through and through
