Salvador Dali (1904.1989)

Original photograph.

[Port Lligat, c. 1977]

Size: 27.3 x 19 cm

A beautiful vintage print enhanced with a drawing and an autographed dedication signed by the Catalan master. The photograph depicts a young woman, a model for Dalí, standing in an egg-shaped structure on the terrace of his home in Port Lligat. In addition to his signature, the artist has embellished the photograph with a shooting star in the upper margin and the autographed inscription "mes hommages" (my respects) in the lower margin.

Is the young woman in the print Christiana, the daughter of the Albaretto couple? While not certain, the resemblance is striking. Dr. Giuseppe Albaretto was one of the artist's closest friends, having amassed over the years the most important private collection of Dalí's works.

One of Dalí's most important symbols: A Christian symbol of Christ's resurrection and an emblem of purity and perfection, the egg is among the most prominent symbols in the artist's work. Beyond its appearance and mineral quality, so dear to Dalí, it represents the pre-existing, intrauterine life and symbolizes rebirth. Another "Egg," this one unbroken, is displayed on the turret of the artist's house in Port Lligat.

On the reverse: red wet stamp “Exclusive / Radial Press” then “Una modelo de Dalí” in blue felt-tip pen by an unknown hand.
