Salvador Dalí (1904.1989)

Original signed drawing – Ant and two rocks.

India ink on heavy paper. Circa 1952.

Magnificent and iconic drawing by the Master of Port Lligat depicting an ant dominating two small rocks within which Dalí inscribed his name in capital letters and the S of his first name.

Swarms of tiny ants tirelessly traverse Dalí's work. During his childhood, he amused himself by watching ants devour the remains of small, decomposing animals. Between fascination and repulsion, ants symbolized for Dalí decay and death, witnesses to the ephemeral nature of life.
