Kipling invites his correspondent to join him at his home in Etchingham.

” Dear Vicomte, I 'm glad to learn that you are in England again. It would give us very great pleasure if you could come down for the night on Monday 19 th . The best trains from Charing Cross to Etchingham are those starting at 1.36 pm arriving at 3:47; and 4:50 pm reaching here at 6.29. I will meet you at the station with the (?) if you say that you can come. Very sincerely. Rudyard Kipling.”

 

Translation : "Dear Viscount, I am pleased to hear that you are back in England. We would be very happy if you could come and spend the night of Monday the 19th. The best trains from Charing Cross to Etchingham are those departing at 1:36 p.m., arriving at 3:47 p.m.; and 4:50 p.m., arriving at 6:20 p.m. I will meet you at the station (…) if you confirm your attendance. Yours sincerely, Rudyard Kipling."
