Renaud CAMUS (1946-)

Autograph letter signed to Madeleine Chapsal.

Four pages, large quarto. Autograph envelope

Plieux. April 3, 2002.

“Madam, please allow me to express my sincere gratitude for your kindness in sending me *Love Has No Season* , accompanied by a wonderfully generous and flattering inscription. I have just finished reading this book with all the more pleasure and interest because most of the characters share perspectives on the world as it is and on life as it shapes us. And what a joy it is to be able, thanks to you, to place faces, names, and destinies in this Saintonge region that I travel through so often, and whose beautiful light I rediscover between your pages. And yet, perhaps even more than in the Charentes region, it is to your evocation of the irresistible and curiously triumphant charm that once reigned upon entering Paris from the west that I owe one of my most vibrant emotions in reading your work. These joys that are no more must be written down.” This and several others are wonderful thanks to you. By an amazing coincidence, my mother, who just called me, and to whom I said I was writing to you, spoke enthusiastically about an article of yours (I hope she's not mistaken!) that she recently read about a park near Limoges. Because of you, she dreams of nothing else but this park and promises herself she'll go there as soon as possible! In short, the whole family owes you great joy, and I would like to express, with my most respectful regards, my warmest gratitude, Renaud Camus.
