After yet another argument with Eugénie Krantz, Verlaine had once again settled in the Hôtel de Lisbonne in mid-September 1894. His friend Frédéric-Auguste Cazals was also staying there.

Verlaine met William Henry Heinemann (1863-1920) in November 1893 during his series of lectures in England.
