"I still hope for a very soon and very important revolution in Spain."

A moving letter from Oscar Dominguez, alone in Barcelona on the eve of the Spanish Civil War, confirming to his surrealist friend his agreement to create an etching. This etching would illustrate Hugnet's book, La Hampe de l'imaginaire , published the following year by Guy Lévis Mano.

"Dear Georges, I received your news with great pleasure, and your magnificent collage. I hasten to reply to tell you that I am willing to make the etching you requested , but I cannot guarantee a satisfactory result as it will be the first one I have made."

In the maps, you might see a lovely view of a park in Barcelona designed for Gaudí. I find it very interesting; here you find funny things everywhere, and it helps pass the time quite nicely. Despite all this, I'm really looking forward to getting to Paris to see you all again. I feel quite alone here, and I don't know any of our friends.

The political situation is very difficult to grasp precisely, but in any case, the Spanish worker is something remarkable. There are some very powerful enemies. The [?] and the royalists, who are unfortunately very strong. Despite everything, I still hope for a very soon and very important revolution in Spain. I'm sure that if you ever come, you'll like it very much, especially the architectural and poetic aspects. I'm waiting for the documents to begin your etching.
