Oscar DOMINGUEZ

Moving Missive of Oscar Dominguez, lonely in Barcelona at the dawn of the Spanish civil war, confirming to his surrealist friend his agreement for the realization of a etching. This will illustrate the work of Hugnet, La Mampe de l'Imaginaire , published the following year at the Guy Lévis Mano edition.

“Dear Georges, I received with great pleasure from your news, and your magnificent collage. I hasten to answer you to tell you that I am willing to make you the etching that you ask me , but I do not guarantee you a satisfactory result because it will be the first that I will do.

In the cards, you could see a nice appearance of a Barcelona park made for Gaudi. I find it very interesting, here we find everywhere funny things and it makes me pass the time quite well. Despite all this I want to arrive in Paris to find you all. I find myself here quite alone and I do not know anyone of ours.

The political question arises in an aspect very difficult to realize exactly [ment], but in any case the Spanish worker is something great. There are great very powerful enemies. The [?] And the royalists who are unfortunately very strong. Despite everything I still hope of Spain a very close and very important revolution. I am sure that if you come one day it will please a lot, especially in the architectural and poetic aspect. I await the documents to start your etching.

My most sincere friendships in Germaine and all the comrades. With Oscar's absolute friendship. »»
