Germaine Kanova (1902-1975), the official photographer of Free France in London, was the first female war correspondent for the French army. Based in London, where she photographed pre-war celebrities, she enlisted in November 1944 as a war photographer to document the French army's advance during the liberation of France and the campaign in Germany.
