The department stores are cheerful;

But what turmoil in my soul

Is it evening or morning?.

I can hear the cars mooing

The brakeless phonograph

Meditation blinds me

And my steps no longer have a path.

The Trees of Time bend

They want to drink in the Seine.

Strange kings of France once upon a time

They bowed down to see them.

Pain follows like a shadow

We don't always think about it

The spirit emerged from the grave

A smile is the embodiment of love.

Max Jacob.
