“Dear Comrade Alexandre Roy, Upon receiving your letter this morning, we sent a telegram as it seemed to us that a letter would be too slow. We are too busy with you today to talk about the Iliad and the Odyssey, which we received the day before yesterday and which gave us great pleasure. I prefer to talk to you about you. With your courage and the skill with which the operations are being carried out today, I know you did well to decide to go ahead, but we await a letter as soon as possible (just a word to give you news). One never feels so deeply the affection one has for a friend as when he is ill .”

Charlotte adds to her thoughts those of her brother Achille, who has gone to work, and those of her father.
