" Dear Sir,

[Jacques] has asked me to succeed him as director of the Vieux-Colombier and I have accepted; I would be happy, knowing the interest you have in the theatre and in this house in particular, to be able to present to you the plans that I have been led to make for the resumption of the operation of the Vieux-Colombier.

Please convey, dear Sir, my respectful regards to Madame Fauchier-Magnan – and I assure you here of my cordial devotion and my most faithful remembrance. Louis Jouvet

Despite Jacques Copeau's request, Louis Jouvet ultimately decided against taking over the theater. Jean Tedesco finally assumed the directorship in the autumn of 1924. Louis Jouvet then moved to the Comédie des Champs-Élysées, where he worked until 1934.
