Beautiful letter from Juliette Drouet to Victor Hugo, lovingly thanking him for his help in paying her debt to the priest of Saint Mandé.

" It's me again with my little papers. First of all, I'm terrible and I won't spare you a single penny until my own, well, my dearest, refuse me service. But rest assured, my darling, for this is drawing to a close for tonight. Firstly, because my privilege doesn't allow me to go any further today, and secondly, because it's late and I absolutely must go to St. Mandé tomorrow, as we agreed this evening. I would be the most miserable of women if I couldn't take this money to the priest tomorrow. This debt weighs on me almost like a shame, so I'm eager to be rid of it as soon as possible. Not that the priest isn't the best and most discreet of men, but there are some debts that involve more than honor, and this is one of them. So, thanks to you, I'll be able to pay it off tomorrow.
