Returning from the United States where she accompanied Martin Luther King in the fight for Freedom, Josephine Baker tells her friends about her successes.

"Dear both of you, I am so happy with your note, thank you. I have just returned from the USA where I had a real triumph (at my age). I sent a telegram to Claude and your sister. I hope your health is good, the children here are doing very well, thank heavens. A thousand affections from your faithful Josephine."

During the 1960s, Josephine Baker campaigned against apartheid in South Africa and returned to the United States to support Martin Luther King's movement. On August 28, 1963, she stood with Luther King in French army uniform as he delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
