The front view, dated October 26, 1879, depicts two farm buildings bordering a road on which a passerby is strolling.

The reverse view, dated October 27, 1879, depicts the same landscape, this time sketched in the dawn sun and showing a cart between the two farms.

Jongkind dated the two studies in pencil: "Oct 26, 1879" and "Oct 27, 1879" and numbered the back, bottom right, "36-18".
