“My dear Albert, I am decidedly putting my literary pride asideyou make a fine chapter out of it, it may well be the only one read in my book – but it will be read – just look at my letter from this morning (…) I want to say above all, my dear Albert, that I consider you not only a comrade, but also and especially as part of my family – you know how much we all love you and I wouldn’t want to see the friendship we have shared for so long tarnished for anything in the world – when will you be finished – would you like me to pick up your work tomorrow or would you like to bring it to me before, during or after our dinner. Always and more than ever your Jacques Offenbach.
