Important and fascinating letter on the siege of Hondarribia, in the part of Navarre annexed by Fernand the Catholic and which the ally and future brother-in-law of François I: Henri II d'Albret, King of Navarre, sought to take back.

“Monsignor de Jarnac jay received the letters that you wrote to me […]. The franc archers were only paid one hundred sols per month and the lieutenants will have forty francs per month. “[…] this nevertheless knowing the high cost which is in Fontarrabye and the good will which they have to serve me Jay esté and am happy that they are from now on paying at the rate of six francs per month Provided that they will promise to serve me well and faithfully in the place if the siege comes there without any mutiny and they will wait for their payment as long as they are locked up it will not be possible for long because in this case I will help them with all my strength and power both by sea and by land […]”.
