HERGÉ – Tintin and the Thompson Twins Investigation

Signed letter.

A delightful letter from Hergé featuring the Thompson twins in the midst of a police investigation.

It looks like a puzzle, one on which an adventure story could be built… A new Tintin adventure , for example! But the Thompson twins, whom I have put in charge of the investigation, have already almost solved the mystery.

A delightful letter from Hergé featuring the Thompson twins in the midst of a police investigation.

“Dear Mademoiselle, dear friends, How is it that a message written on December 30th only receives a reply at the beginning of March of the following year? … It seems like a puzzle, one on which an adventure story could be built… A new Tintin adventure , for example! But the Thompson twins, whom I have put in charge of the investigation, have already almost solved the mystery. They saw that your letter was only posted in Ernée on February 20th. From there, it passed through a correspondent of Mademoiselle de la Messuzière, in Kain (Belgium). By the time it got from Kain to Brussels… and here we are on March 4th. No, really, the matter isn't murky enough to serve as the basis for a whole 'Tintin-esque' story. We'll have to find something else; I'm thinking about it, I'm thinking about it, but please be patient! Our astute detectives have also determined that your letter was by no means anonymous ; The proof is that it contains more than thirty signatures. Among them, they counted several Rousseaus, Moreaus, Bouttiers, Taburets… but also two Demies, and they wonder, perplexed, whether two Demies count as one or two?… In any case, at a rate of 1,000 greetings per signatory, I am sending you, under this envelope, at least 30,000! I am also sending each of you a card with my best wishes. Yours were ready to go on time; mine arrive much later, but they are no less sincere and cordial. Hergé
