"My dearest friend, I've barely settled in Toulouse (for a week of portraiture ) – (I'm staying with Silvio Trentin's children) – when disaster strikes. I receive the following telegram:"
" Mrs. Bellmer, serious accident, surgery We request Mr. Bellmer to return home. "
So I'm taking the 6 o'clock train this evening to return to Castres, after having taken out a loan of 2,000 francs
Comment: 1) The unhappiness of two people, who cannot live happily together, naturally leads to objective accidents .
2) On several occasions already my wife has sent me similar telegrams [sic], which were false alarms.
3) A few minutes before my departure yesterday, at 6 a.m., she showed me an ulcer, already too dark to be a newborn, in the center of her genitals. – A strange worry I've been able to nurture in my thoughts ever since. Could there be a direct or indirect connection between this and the accident? (I don't have ulcers and I never have – or anything else for that matter.)
I'll give you an update this evening in Castres. I'm not just leaving the portraits unfinished, and therefore the money, but also the photographer who will start making the missing enlargements for "The Doll Games" on Tuesday morning. Affectionately, H.
