Strong like death , fifth novel by Maupassant, was published in 1889 at Ollendorff. Its title is taken from the hymn of hymns: " Love is strong like death, and jealousy is hard as the sepulcher. »»

The Duchess of Regina therefore received strongly as death the first. If the countess had received two copies of this book, one in Japan (probably with printed mention of her name), and the other with the sending that Maupassant had just made, to our knowledge neither have appeared on the market since.
