“Have you thought about Bouilhet’s (Hélène Peyron) advertisement for the intermission [theater review-program] ?
Dennery positively refused. A thousand handshakes. Gve Flaubert . »
Flaubert had decided, faced with the discouragement of Louis Bouilhet, to defend and promote the dramatic play of his friend, Hélène Peyron , which would be performed at the Odéon on November 11, 1858.
This note follows his initial request to Lévy, dated December 24, 1857:
“ My dear Michel, Can you (and even if you cannot, do it!) insert in the intermission the following paragraph: “The new play by Mr Louis Bouilhet, Hélène Peyron , comedy in five acts and in verse, was read last Saturday at the Odéon. It will be put to study immediately. » This is important because several small newspapers have announced that it will not be performed this year. No news from Dennery so far. »
