“Dear Michel Le Guével, Thank you for your letter and your invitation. I would gladly accept – I enjoy interacting with young students – but unfortunately I do not live in France: my teaching keeps me in Boston; my visits to Paris are rather infrequent. I regret this, believe me. Perhaps one day? Please accept, dear colleague, my warmest regards.”

Having become an American citizen in 1963, Wiesel obtained a chair in humanities at Boston University.
