“I don’t know where to begin to tell you about all the misfortunes we had to endure from May 22nd to 24th… thank God we are still among the fortunate, at the cost of so many others who have nothing left but their tears; these scoundrels are setting fire to all the posts they are forced to abandon, it’s terrible to see.”

“Sir, I don’t know where to begin to tell you all the misfortunes we endured from May 22nd to 24th. I spent three days and two nights in the shop, completely unaware of what was happening around us… those scumbags of Communards kept passing back and forth in front of the shop, asking if there were any men inside. Finally, we all escaped safe and sound, half an hour after being freed from our cruel enemies. There was still something we had forgotten about: the Luxembourg powder magazine… which they were forced to abandon and blow up, causing terrible damage in the neighborhood.” At the shop, there are 6 broken panes of glass, at the dome, 1 at the front, 1 at the small shop, at your apartment… thank God we are still among the fortunate, compared to so many others who have nothing left but their tears. These scoundrels set fire to every place they are forced to abandon; it's terrible to see. Sir, my wife and daughter join me in offering you and Madame Laroche our deepest respects. Brune.
