Camille Saint-Saëns created Déjanire in 1898 and Parysiatis in 1902. It was through the bonds of friendship he maintained with Fernand Castelbon de Beauxhostes (1859-1934) that Saint-Saëns used the Béziers arenas for theatrical and lyrical performances which would turn the city into a "human anthill" in the artist's own words.
