While he remained in Guernsey since the fall of 1855, Hugo went to Jersey, his initial land of exile, at the request of notables and outlaws on the island in order to support Giuseppe Garibaldi. Hugo entered Jersey on June 18, 1860. It was on this occasion that this photo was taken by photographer Henry Mülling.
