(Arthur RIMBAUD) – Vitalie RIMBAUD (1858.1875)

A precious Rimbaldian relic.

Vitalie Rimbaud's first communion certificate. May 15, 1870.

Images engraved on steel forming a double triptych, enhanced with gold, framed with a border of paper lace.

It is signed twice by the poet's younger sister and dated May 15, 1870.

Illustrated with edifying images engraved on steel, the certificate is printed in black and gold (Paris, Ch. Letaille printing house). It is presented as a double triptych, framed by a paper lace border. On the front cover: My First Communion. On the back: My Resolutions – with the handwritten addition " of piety and obedience " in the text.

The first triptych is open, and the side panels indicate My promises and My consecration to Mary. They each bear the signature " V. Rimbaud ".

On the central panel, two handwritten dates: " June 22, 1858 ", for the Remembrance of my baptism, and " October 8, 1871 ", for the Remembrance of my confirmation.

This central panel opens again in the form of a triptych on the image of a ciborium, revealing Christ in filigree, and this sentence " I am faithful, be faithful too ".

Below this divine figure: Souvenir of my first communion, with the handwritten date " May 15, 1870 ".

An exceptional document, miraculously preserved despite its vulnerability.
Minor, insignificant losses at two corners of the paper lace.

Jeanne Rosalie Vitalie, the fourth child of the Rimbauds, was born on May 15, 1858. A student at the Convent of the Holy Sepulchre in Charleville, she died on December 18, 1875, at the age of seventeen. Arthur Rimbaud, deeply affected by her death, attended her funeral with a shaved head.
