“Dear Renée,  “Disapproval”? Certainly not. But I was, I'm still too tired to write. And it would have required such a long letter, with infinite “considerations” (but none that were pleasant). “Prometheus”? I think it's already been on the radio. Where is your Leonard?

But no, no, I'm not doing well and, this very morning, I had to alert the doctor in Vence. (which reassured me: false angina). My heart sinks, but still allows me to kiss you. Andre Gide. »

Gide died less than five months after this letter, on February 19, 1951 in his Parisian apartment on rue Vaneau, at the age of 81.
