" In our prospectus, we named d' Artagnan , Athos , Porthos , and Aramis , but we forgot, dear readers, to tell you what an important place they hold in our editorial team. "
A formidable manuscript by Alexandre Dumas designating his four musketeers as editors of the eponymous periodical and humorously describing the character traits of each.

"In our prospectus we named d'Artagnan, Athos, Porthos and Aramis, but we forgot, dear readers, to tell you what an important place they hold in our editorial staff.
D'Artagnan – A restless, turbulent, and adventurous spirit, he will meddle greatly in matters that concern him and even a little in those that don't. […] Known for being stubborn, he cannot be denied a kind heart. It is therefore he who will particularly defend widows, orphans, the weak, and the afflicted. […]
Athos – A nobleman, a perfect gentleman. But at the same time, a learned mind with a scholarly memory – a generous heart. He will concern himself particularly with philosophical, scientific, and moral questions […]
Porthos – […] will run the city, haunt the clubs, will not miss a race at Lamarque or Chantilly, not a hunt at Compiègne or St Germain […]
Aramis – as we know, is only a musketeer temporarily. He only fights under duress […]
