A moving autograph document from René Crevel: his personal notebook containing approximately 130 notes taken on the spot at the Davos sanatorium.

A handbook for a writer in constant activity, the document reveals the making of a teeming body of work.

A jumble of miscellaneous items, literary, philosophical, and political reflections, as well as drafts, are jumbled together. The variety of inks and handwriting emphasizes the spontaneous, serendipitous nature of the writing. The style here is the antithesis of meticulously crafted novels.

Crevel evidently used this notebook during his stay in Davos in 1934-1935. The last pages contain the account of a dream he had on the night of March 6-7 [1935] featuring Paul Éluard.
