Alfred de Vigny (1797.1863)

Autographed letter signed.

Three octavo pages. August 2, 1835.

A remarkable letter from Vigny negotiating a general reprint of his work and mentioning some of his greatest titles.

“I think I will find in my books or in my portfolios more substantial pieces for your keepsake than: ' Quitte pour la peur' (Leaving aside the fear which we discussed this morning, and I also have some ideas to share with you, sir, the first time I see you. Until then, let's not decide anything on this point . The more important matter which (…) has prevented me from thinking about everything concerning this January 1st project . You will have plenty of time to do all the calculations for the treaty with Mr. Buloz, which you will, in turn, allow me time to examine. I am in no hurry to conclude this general reprint and I will perhaps wait until I have added to my works those which I plan to write this year. Believe me, no one is less uncertain than I in their projects. I know how far apart these works, whose plans are fixed in my mind, will be published, and nothing can make me waver.” I repeat what I told you this morning: the volume * Servitude and Grandeur* will be followed by * The Second Consultation of the Black Doctor *. My warmest regards to you, sir, and to Mr. Buloz.
