(Paris) June 30, 1849

Beautiful letter from Hugo requesting, as a deputy, a decoration for a usher of the National Assembly following his dedication during the days of June 1848.

Mr. Minister and dear colleague, an usher of the assembly behaved very courageously , before my eyes and under the eyes of our colleague Mr. Galy-Cazalat in the days of June 1848. This usher who is called Danau n 'received no reward at that time. However, medals were given to two employees of the Assembly for their conduct on May 15; the conduct of Bailiff Danau in June was no less commendable and seems to me to deserve the same distinction. Please find it good that, to completely edify you, I put before your eyes the letter he wrote to me on this subject. I would be delighted if the bailiff received from you, such a good judge, the reward for his honorable conduct. Please accept, Mr. Minister, the assurance of all my cordialities. Victor Hugo. »
