Charles Albert d'Arnoux, known as Bertall (1820-1882) was one of the pioneers of photographic art. He collaborated with Hippolyte Bayard from 1855, then opened with him the Bayard and Bertall photography studio at 15 bis rue de la Madeleine in Paris in the early 1860s and until 1866, when he set up on his own.
