Marseilles. June 1904.

“To our dearest Tivosette (née Cerfvolant). These memories of his friends. Nadar. Marseilles. June 1904.”

Probably inspired by Panthéon charivarique , Nadar planned in 1851 to bring together more than a thousand celebrities of the time on lithographic plates.

The period of creation of the Pantheon was frenetic: Nadar formed a small group of designers, including his younger brother, to create the hundreds of portraits necessary for these large frescoes.

The famous Panthéon Nadar appeared in March 1854 and features two hundred and fifty known characters including Hugo, Nerval, Baudelaire, Balzac, Lamartine, Chateaubriand, Musset, Dumas...

Nadar, who represents himself (n°182) seated next to a sign dedicates his pantheon thus: " To the gentleman whom I certainly regret in advance for not knowing and who on the 2nd day of the 3rd moon of the year 3607 will run the sales like a lost dog to buy at a gold price this copy which has become impossible to find and which he will not be able to do without for his great work on the historical figures of the 19th century. »
