Sonia DELAUNAY (1885.1979)

Autograph photographic card signed to the poet Joseph Delteil.

A page in-12° (14 x 10 cm) on the back of a silver print showing a Papuan fetish enthroned in front of a work by Delaunay. Slnd [January 1965]

“Luckily I have my painting – it’s my poetry, my language…”

Very beautiful map of Delaunay taking refuge in his memories and in his art.

Dear Joseph, thank you for the book which enchanted me; That's real Delteil – it's surprising how real and young it is, it smells of earth – that 's how I see you. It reminded me of the good old days with Robert , that everything around us had changed. Fortunately I have my painting – it is my poetry, my language, which saves me from the poverty of spirit that surrounds me. I have decided to go see you at the Tuilerie when the weather is warmer. My old companion the cat died and I can abandon the house. Happy New Year 1965. Kiss Caroline [Caroline Dudley, Delteil's wife] for me. I called Catherine but she was asleep […] I know that your book is successful in La Hune. I kiss you both. Sonya. »

Joseph Delteil had just published La Cuisine Paléolitique with Robert Morel. The work was awarded the International Grand Prix for Gastronomic Literature in 1965.
