An extraordinary copy enriched with an original double-page signed drawing by the artist, with an autographed and illustrated inscription to Cécile Éluard: "For Cécile, with a thousand wishes for happiness. Salvador Dali. 1947."
The drawing addressed to his daughter-in-law is signed and captioned: " Homage to Rafael, Dali, 1947 "
Depicting a Virgin and Child, the drawing testifies to the Catalan painter's deep admiration for Raphael, whom he considered superior to Leonardo da Vinci, and who figured in his personal pantheon alongside Vermeer and Velasquez.
Provenance: Cécile Éluard (1928-2016), only daughter of Paul Éluard and Gala Dalí.
Certificate of authenticity from Messrs. Nicolas and Olivier Descharnes. The work is registered in the Descharnes Archives under reference d7034.
