In 1957, publisher Joseph Foret commissioned Dali to produce impressive lithographs and create an extraordinary composition of illustrations from Miguel Cervantes's famous book Don Quixote . For this purpose, Dali used an air gun which projected ink balls. The paint spreading in a burst on the lithographic stone, thus gave Dali the basis of his inspiration.
