Kipling invites his correspondent to join him at his home in Etchingham.

” Dear Viscount, I 'm glad to learn that you are in England again. It would give us very great pleasure if you could come down for the night on Monday 19th . The best trains from Charing Cross to Etchingham are those starting at 1.36 pm arriving at 3:47; and 4:50 pm reaching here at 6.29. I will meet you at the station with the (?) if you say that you can come. Very sincerely. Rudyard Kipling.”

 

Translation : “Dear Viscount, I am glad to hear that you are back in England. It would be a great pleasure to us if you could come and spend the night on Monday 19th. The best trains from Charing Cross to Etchingham are those departing at 1:36 p.m., arriving at 3:47 p.m.; and 4:50 p.m., arrival at 6:20 p.m. I will meet you at the station (…) if you confirm your arrival. Very sincerely. Rudyard Kipling.
