“Dear Sir, I received your letter of April 7th concerning the damaged painting. Your friend can bring it to me, and I will see what can be done. Should I lack the time to make the necessary repairs, I will replace it with something else, as you suggest. I don't even know if it can be restored in its current condition. In any case, please send me the painting so I can determine what can be done. The death of our cousin was an incomprehensible event for all of us (like so many other things). We had to accept it, though I, for one, cannot accept the very nature of life and death. We truly live in an incomprehensible world! ”
