“Dear Sir, I think I told you that Grasset asked me to change the title of my novel. I plan to call him Emmanuel or the Green Heart . Time passes, I would be infinitely grateful if you could tell me around what date you plan to publish it, my return is subject to this date. Forgive me, sir, for once again abusing your kindness, and please believe in my devoted feelings. Raymond Radiguet. PS I gave his manuscript to Cocteau. I don't think there is any urgency in sending it back to you and giving it to Grasset when I return.

Le Diable au corps was published by Grasset in March 1923, a few months before the death of its author.

Radiguet had considered more than ten titles for this first novel, written down in a school notebook: La Tête la premiere, La Tête et le Cœur, La Ligne de Tête et la Ligne de cœur, L'Éducation du cœur, The Arid Heart, The Dry Eyes, etc.

Until the end of 1922, it was “Emmanuel ou le coeur vert” which seemed to be definitively retained, as evidenced by his correspondence.
