“I'm quite tired of the work I've done again this year. »

“My dear Moune, Thank you for your letter and for everything you tell me about Emilienne’s health. I live in perpetual anguish and I assure you that I can't wait to find her and see her make the journey without too much fatigue. I wonder why she is leaving Nice when she can sleep in St Raphaël. I fear for her the uncomfortable journey from Ste Maxime to Nice and I wrote to her to have an ambulance to take her either to Nice or to St Raphaël. Dr de Ste Maxime can give the necessary certificate. Whatever the price of this transport, I prefer it to any other and if it is feasible this way, I will be a little reassured. Be kind to tell her all this and go see her at Ste Maxime. As this incurs costs, I would like to send you a telegraphic money order. Emilienne tells me in her letter of June 8 that she will leave Nice on the 21st. I ask you to see with her if this is not imprudent, I would prefer to see the trip delayed although I am looking forward to seeing her move away from the coast. I confirmed to Madame Briand that what she had done was good and that I will take possession of the apartment reserved for Europe on June 15. I leave Perpignan on the evening of the 14th. I'm quite tired of the work I've done again this year , the exhibition in Paris opened yesterday. When I'm in Aix I'll get back to work a little and I promise to think of you. As you will not have time to reply to me in Perpignan, you will write to me at the Hôtel de l'Europe in Aix. Thank you for everything you do for us. I kiss you. Raoul Dufy. »

The Louis Carré gallery organized a Dufy exhibition, avenue de Messine, in Paris, from June 9 to 30, 1943.
